Mapping coordinates appear inverted in API Explorer maps

For a map displayed in the API Explorer, the X axis is vertical, and the Y axis is horizontal. While this appears to be the opposite of a standard coordinate plane orientation, it is intentional. Misty uses a ROS-like coordinate orientation, where:

  • Z axis is up (out of the robot’s head to the ceiling)
  • X axis is forward (where the robot is looking/facing)
  • Y axis is to the left (Misty’s left arm side)

The X and Y axis are correctly oriented because Misty is using ROS like coordinate orientation.

In ROS coordinate system, Z axis is up (out of the robot’s head to the ceiling).
X axis is forward (where the robot is looking/facing).
Y axis is to the left (Misty’s left arm side).
